Polio Wake Up Across the Continent – Prime Time
As part of a special Polio Awareness Initiative covering the Continent, various events across the world ( https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_158711824183179 ) are being organized to also raise funds for Polio. See more about this Initiative at http://bit.ly/r9nk6e
There is one event taking place in Richmond on Oct. 27th, 2011 and we’ve been invited by the Rotary Club of Steveston to attend. 7pm at the Buck & Ear Pub – Steveston Hotel (12111 3 Ave; Moncton & 3rd Ave – NOT No. 3 Road). Unfortunately because it is a Pub, you must be of legal drinking age to support the fundraiser. Cost is $25 with tax receipted $10 to Polio Plus. You have to buy in advance so let me know ASAP if you are interested in attending.

I (King-mong) received this forwarded email from a local Rotarian. Essentially it seems to be a funding program that offer grants to ideas that meet the program’s goals – I thought I’ll share it with you all. If you have time, take a look over the website, specifically EmbraceBC guidelines . And see what ideas flow through your mind – the program might be around for the following year so we as a service organization could definitely aspire to plan some big project that could address this.
But we’ll need people with passion, willing to dream, and willing to put those thoughts into action! Yes it’s quite a daunting task (see all the far-ranging criteria) but with your determination, the skills of fellow Rotaractors, the advice of Rotarians – it can be done and what an impact! Anyways, I just thought I’ll share it with you all. Let me know if you have any ideas – it’s never too early to plan!!

“Letter regarding New EmbraceBC RFP for Youth Dialogues:
Dear Colleague: I am writing to notify you that the Ministry of Social Development has posted a solicitation for Community Engagement and Dialogue funding under EmbraceBC on the BC Bid website: http://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca . This year, the dialogue initiative will focus on youth engagement and capacity building. Dialogues provide an opportunity for communities to:
* Engage with each other in an atmosphere of respect and empathy.
* Share experiences and search together to identify challenges and solutions on themes related to the elimination of racism and the support of multiculturalism.
* Explore unique ways to support welcoming and inclusive communities.
EmbraceBC is a government-led initiative that provides funding opportunities for community-based projects through six program elements developed to inspire community members, residents and sector leaders to welcome, accept and embrace difference on both personal and institutional levels. To learn more about EmbraceBC, the Guidelines and for updated information and resources check http://www.EmbraceBC.ca . Any questions related to the solicitation must be directed in writing to Procurement Advisory Services by facsimile at: (250) 387-7309 or by e-mail at: purchasing@gov.bc.ca

2011 Professional Development
Members of The Rotaract Club of Richmond are provided with opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge through professional development activities. Knowledgeable speakers from fields that are of interest to our members will be invited to come share their experience and knowledge. We also plan to offer informative yet fun events like our past tour of the Granville Island Brewery planned by Gary, our Professional Development Director of 2010.
