Current Projects
As a youth service organization, community service in our local community is a main priority and our passion. In addition to occasional one-time volunteering with community organizations, we also volunteer regularly.
Upcoming (One-Time) Volunteering:
Thurs. May. 10 – Richmond Poverty Response Committee (RPRC) – Youth Housing Dialogue with Olympian Alexa Loo
The RPRC will be co-hosting with Richmond Youth Service Agency (RYSA) a youth dialogue about issues and challenges of finding affordable housing for young people. Olympian snow boarder Alexa Loo will also be present. We’ve been asked to see if we could help with the setting up of displays and to record the dialogue and discussions that will occur that night. Food will be provided for all people going to the dialogue (including volunteers); we’ve been asked if we can volunteer from 5:30-8:30p on that night – the location is at RYSA (100-7900 Alderbridge Way). If you are interested in volunteering, please let King-mong know! See poster here
Below is a personal invitation from RPRC to Rotaract for us to also simply attend, listen and participate in the dialogue!
“On behalf of the Richmond Poverty Response Committee, I would like to extend an invitation to you and Rotaract to send representatives our upcoming youth dialogue on affordable housing issues in Richmond called Getting Serious about Affordable Housing: A Dialogue will Olympian Alexa Loo.
We are seeking feedback on new project called Rental Connect, which seeks to create more affordable housing in Richmond by encouraging development of secondary suites, and then providing a service to connect land lords to tenants who need affordable housing. We want to make sure this project reflects the needs and concerns of youth in Richmond.
The event will feature World Champion and Olympic snowboarder Alexa Loo for a free meal and a round table discussion with diverse youth stakeholders. The event is open to youth aged 18-25. Return bus tickets will be provided, and there is a prize raffle.
We have room for two- three reps from Rotaract. This is a great opportunity to get involved in building the foundation of an exciting new project that will help solve a pressing issue in Richmond. I hope you can join us.
Please RSVP to info@richmond.org with names of people who can attend.
Thank you
Tria Donaldson
