Paddle for Kids

Hey all our Rotaract members! Our first district event is happening soon! Check out the details below or in our Local Opportunities page!

What is Paddle for Kids?
It’s a fundraiser for the BC Children’s hospital in the form of a dragon boat competition. Complete beginners are welcome! There are obstacle races, and short 250m races as well as fun on-land mini-Olympics games such as 3-legged races. My own dragon boat team has done it for the past 4 years and we’ve always had a blast at this event because the races don’t have a competitive attitude. It’s also a good bonding experience for everybody!

When?
Saturday, September 11, 2010. Paddlers need to be present from approximately 9am to 3pm.

Where?
The grassy field right by Science World. Races will be held in False Creek, also right by Science World.

Equipment?
Paddles, life jackets, and boats will be provided. All you need to bring is yourself! Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will also be provided.

How much does it cost?
Registration is $500. Since a team is composed of 20-24 people, it will cost $25 per person if we have 20 paddlers. There is also fundraising through pledges on top of that.

It’s completely fine if you’ve never paddled before! I can give everybody lessons using one of my team’s time slots right by Science World (we’re currently not using one of them). There are corporate teams every year that also have never paddled before.

If you are interested in this event at all, contact our Rotaract District Liaison and he will hook you up with more details.

Cheers and have a great summer
